Obituary for
Alice Martin (Ortwein)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Alice Helen Martin (nee Ortwein) in Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Alice Martin was born on May 11, 1929 in Mayton, Alberta. She was raised in Sunnyslope, Rimbey and Halkirk; where she attended the Daisy Bank School. She was employed at various restaurants and the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Stettler, before moving to Red Deer to work at Sears. Alice and her Husband, Jim, lived southeast of Joffre for many years, until they moved into Red Deer in their retirement. She loved playing Bingo, crocheting, gardening, animals, and especially children. Alice’s quiet nature and ready smile captured the hearts of the staff at West Park Lodge, where she had been a resident for these last few years. They treated her like one of their own. Alice passed away peacefully, knowing she was loved by her family, and surrounded by her close friends and care-givers. She will be lovingly remembered by her three sisters, Grace Herman, Joyce Saben and Bea Sumner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Jim Martin; and two brothers, Del (Marie) Ortwein and Clayton (Doreen) Ortwein.
“Family – like branches in a tree, we all grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.”
A Memorial Service for Alice will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
