OBITUARY
Alfred Vincent Bayne
April 8, 1917 – July 29, 2018
Alf was born in North Vancouver, BC and lived most of his school years in
Penticton, BC. After high school and Bible College he felt called to reach
children and young people with the Good News of our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. This eventuated in the purchase of the motor vessel “Goforth”
and founding of the Pacific Coast Children’s Mission in 1944, fulfilling his
life’s desire to serve and honour his Lord and Saviour.
In 1945 Alf and Margaret Vickers were married and for the next three
years they made their home on the Goforth ministering along the rugged
and remote BC coast. In 1948 they established operational headquarters
ashore on Quadra Island and founded Camp Homewood where they
served until Margaret’s death in 2013.
As a true outdoorsman Alf found much use for his photography and art.
Alf produced several films on the Homewood ministries including “The
Homewood Adventure”.
He remained involved and creative into his 90s, writing “A Candle on the
Coast” a coffee table book portraying the first 50 years of the mission’s
history as well as creating a diorama to commemorate the 50 years of the
Goforth’s active service.
Alf is survived by Kathlene and Greg Beebe and their children, Ellen and
Wilson, first and second cousins and cherished and longtime friendships.
A memorial service will be held on September 8th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at
Camp Homewood on Quadra Island. Should people wish donations in
Alf’s memory can be made to Camp Homewood, Box 40, Heriot Bay, BC
V0P 1H0. Condolences may be offered at www.suttonsfuneralhome.coma
