ALFRED (Alf) JAMES ARMSTRONG
Alfred James Armstrong passed away from a heart attack on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the age of 92 and a half years at the Capital Care Kipnes Centre for Veterans.
He was born in Vermilion, Alberta on November 16, 1925. He lived in Vermilion until her was 14 years old and then his family moved to Olds, Alberta. At 17 and a half years old he joined the Military and was sent overseas during WWII. When he returned home from the war he attended the University of Alberta and received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1951. After working in Camrose, Redwater and Edmonton he eventually moved to Drayton Valley, Alberta. He had met Charlotte Diehl while working in Redwater and they married on May 21, 1955 in Edmonton.
In 1956 Alfred and Charlotte moved to the new town of Drayton Valley as Alfred joined Howard Pickup in partnership in a drugstore. Howard passed away and at that time Dick (Richard) Keldsen joined Alfred in partnership in 2 drugstores as well as a gift and stationary store. Alfred was a member of the Drayton Valley United Church and served on the Church Board. He was also a member of the Drayton Valley Lions Club, Drayton Valley Royal Canadian Legion Branch #269, Masonic Lodge #186 and the Shriners.
He is much loved and remembered by his daughter Ann (Don) Margel, his son Don Armstrong (Anneli), his grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer), Alex, Sophie, Max and great grandson Elton. Also surviving is his sister Elizabeth (Jim) Jenzen as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1 :00 pm at Life Church, 5110-50 Ave Drayton Valley with Dwayne Henley officiating. Interment in the Riverview Cemetery.
