MacMillan, Alberta Hazel – Peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg. Born August 19, 1939 in Victoria County. Daughter of Lloyd Graham and Marjorie Ruck of Lindsay. Sister of June Hansen and Jean Betts. Predeceased in 2013 by her beloved husband of fifty-one years, Tom MacMillan (retired OPP, Town Crier of Cobourg, Drum Major of the Concert Band of Cobourg and a well-known citizen of Cobourg). Beloved mother of Heather MacMillan (Lindsay Obrist), Stephanie MacMillan (Morgan Gabereau) and Wendy MacMillan (Warren Olivo). Beloved nana of Henry Olivo, George MacMillan, Julia Obrist, Blaise Gabereau, Callum Obrist and Finn Obrist. Bert was a teacher with the Scarborough Board of Education and the Northumberland Newcastle Board of Education, retiring in 1996. Active in raising the MacMillan girls, Bert was also an enthusiastic volunteer in Cobourg, serving on many committees and was the winner of a Distinguished Civic Award from the Town of Cobourg and the Town of Port Hope and an Ontario Volunteer Award amongst others. An active Master member of Beta Sigma Phi for 40 years, a member of the Probus Club of Cobourg, a member of RWTO, a Victoria Hall Volunteer, a Capitol Theatre Volunteer, a member of Cobourg Yacht Club, a Cobourg Horticultural member, a member of the Northumberland Hills Foundation and a faithful and active member in many areas of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Cobourg for 45 years. In recognition of Alberta’s wishes, a private family gathering will take place at St. Peter’s Heritage Cemetery in the Scattering Gardens, where she will join her beloved Tom.
