Alberta (Bertie) Ross (MacLeod)
Passed away
at Lakeview Manor on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in her
101st year.Born in Moncton, she was the
daughter of Jesse and Caroline (Allen) London. Bertie and first
husband, Albert, opened a corner store on Waverley Ave. when Albert
was diagnosed with sarcoidosis in the early 1950’s; and
Bertie later worked at the T. Eaton Company in Catalogue Distribution,
followed by 14 years at CFB Moncton and retired from there at age
65.
Bertie
joined St. John’s United Church after marrying Don Ross and
enjoyed being a part of the various UCW fundraisers. She never missed
her daily devotions. She was also a member of the 39’ers
– a group of ladies who would never see 39 again, but all
loved their monthly get-togethers and having
fun.
Bertie was
happiest when giving to others and spending time with family and
friends. She loved hand sewing and spent many hours making
tablecloths, sewing hundreds of little hem stitches in each one and
then giving them away. She also loved baking and her specialities were
her ginger snaps and homemade bread. You could always smell fresh
bread when you passed her apartment and her family, friends and
neighbours were the recipients of many of the loaves and often a
bottle of homemade jam to go with it. She spent many summers enjoying
her trailer at Ocean Surf in Shediac and a few great winters with her
daughter Carolyn in Florida.
Bertie will be sadly missed by her daughter, Carolyn
Beers and husband Robert (Bob) Smith; grandson, Scott MacLeod (Kathy);
granddaughters, Maegan MacLeod Allen and Jill MacLeod; great
grandsons, Gage Allen and Asher MacLeod; daughter-in-law, Heather
Widmeyer; caring family friends, Grace and Seymour Kell; devoted
friends, Cathy Burke, Shirley Lutes and Larry and Margie McLaughlin
and many nieces and nephews.
Bertie was
predeceased by first husband, Albert MacLeod (1963); sons, John
MacLeod (2008) and William (Bill) MacLeod (2016); husband, Donald Ross
(1978); brothers, Roy London (1977), John (Jack) London (1984);
sister, Connie Williams (Lawrence) (1979) and special friend, Jim
Wright (1994).
The family
is very grateful to the management and caring staff at Lakeview Manor
for the wonderful care and love shown to our Mum for the past 10
years. Your kindnesses and caring ways were exemplary. You always took
the time to go the extra mile to ensure Mum’s comfort and
Mum loved you all so very much. We were always comforted to know Mum
was being so well cared for.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at
Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) with
date and times to be
announced.
In memory of
Bertie the family would appreciate donations to Lakeview Manor,
Riverview, St. John’s United Church or a memorial of the
donor’s choice. Online condolences for the family may be
shared at www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
