During 64 years married to his high school sweetheart Desirée (Des), Al celebrated a life filled with 4 children: Max (Barbara), Joe (Susan Cook), Peter (Saica) and Sandra Felske (Kent); 9 grandchildren: Melissa (Stephane), Rachel (Alex), Alexandra, Carolyn (Kyle), Joseph (Katrine), Rebecca, Matt (Stacey), Jonathan (Julianna), David; and 6 great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Tristan, Caleb, Asher, Lydia and Gabrielle. Al served for 35 years in the RCAF as a military pilot and retired as Major. A highlight of his career was Cosmopolitan Flight Commander at 412 Squadron where he flew many dignitaries including members of the Royal Family. In recognition of this service he was presented the Order of Military Merit by the Governor General. He continued to serve in the military as a civilian for a number of years, retiring to enjoy time with the love of his life Desirée at the cottage, cruising, travelling and family life, as well as contributing to his church in leadership roles at All Saints Lutheran Church. Al has been called home to his Lord and will be sorely missed by his many friends and family members. Friends may visit at the Garden Chapel of Tubman s, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, ON, (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.) on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1061 Pinecrest Road, Ottawa on Wednesday October 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception. , memories or to Diabetes Canada may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com.
