Mrs. Agnes Keoughan-Lynch passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, at the age of 95, with family by her side. Born in Douglaston NB, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Keoughan and the late Ellen (Driscoll) Keoughan.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, Raymond Lynch, Agnes was predeceased by five sisters: Marg, Rita, Ann, Rose and Jean, and eight brothers: Ben, Vincent, Frances, Lawrence, Dan, Jim, Edward, and John. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Agnes was a registered nursing assistant (RNA) who was employed at and retired from Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home. During the early years of her adult life, she first was employed in the ladieswear department at Creaghan’s, Newcastle, and for a number of years she ran her own ladieswear shop, The Robin Shop, which was also located in Newcastle. It was from the world of women’s fashion, that she ventured into a nursing career for which she held a passion and which she found to be an incredibly rewarding experience.
Agnes was dedicated to her extended family, her community and church. She was a member of Saint Samuel’s Roman Catholic Church. She was a very active community volunteer, well into her eighties, and among the numerous organizations to which she dedicated herself were: a five-year-term on the Social Action Committee for the Diocese of Saint John; two years on the Henderson House Committee; Charter Member and Chairman of Fundraising for Miramichi Crime Stoppers; Charter Board member of Miramichi Citizens Against Unsafe Social Environment(CAUSE); member of St. Samuel’s Parish Council; Member of the Douglastown Village Council and, she served as President of Miramichi Heritage Inc., a group of volunteers dedicated to the initial restoration and refurbishment of the Old Seamen’s Hospital. Agnes was honoured for her dedicated volunteerism by The City of Miramichi and Crime Stoppers, and she also was honoured as a dedicated member by the Liberal Association.
Visitation will be held at Bell’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 12th, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint Samuel’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, December 13th, at 11:00 AM, with Father John Keoughan officiating.
Burial will take place in Saint Samuel’s Roman Catholic Church cemetery later in the spring.
