OBITUARY
Agnes « Cheese » Harrison (née McGuire)
2 July , 1940 – 4 May , 2018
Agnes peacefully passed away with her loving family by her side in Calgary, AB on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the age of 77 years. She loved a good story and knew many in her home area of Lake Nipigon. Agnes was a respected Chim Diimoyenh, elder, of Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek. She constantly kept busy and instilled the values of love for family, laughter, faith, caring, hard work, kindness and honesty to the people she met. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and family. Agnes had an extended sickness which she fought with dignity. Her husband, Ronald, cared for her with the assistance of her children and grandchildren in Calgary. She deeply cared for and loved her children and grandchildren with a selfless, supportive, gentle, generous and devoted love only a mother and grandmother can love you with. She cherished the time she spent with her family with big family meals and lots of laughter.
Agnes volunteered with many local Aboriginal organizations over the years and was involved in the early days of political organizing in the 1970s, 1980s, with the Lake Nipigon Metis Association, the Ontario Metis Non-Status Indian Association, the first Metis Women’s Association in Ontario in 1979, and the early Ontario Native Women’s Association. She was a memorable woman and it was an honour to know her, love her and be her child.
Agnes was the beloved wife of Ronald Harrison. Her children are James McGuire (Karen), Andrew, Malcolm John (Jane) and Sandra Sutherland. She was Grandmother to Mark, Michael, Jennifer, Justin, Patrick, Bradley, Ava and Claire. Her parents were the late Annie (nee LeGarde) and Patrick McGuire. Agnes was also predeceased by siblings, Pamela, Julia, Michael, George and Nate. Surviving siblings are Elsie, Patrick, Maureen, Russell, Henry, Daniel, Kathleen, Cecilia, Sullivan, Patricia and Michael Toset. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Thunder Bay, ON.
We are the keepers of the memories.
