LIBBUS, Abraham
« Nipper »
Coxheath
It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Abraham
George « Nipper » Libbus, announce his death on Tuesday, April
24, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit, Sydney,
Nova Scotia.
Born December 18, 1960, in Sydney, he was one of six children
of the late Abraham « Abie » Joseph and Mary « Babe »
Frances (Lyons) Libbus.
In recent years, Nipper was a safety advisor with Local 955,
he worked in the oil and gas industry in Alberta. For 28 years prior,
Nipper was the face of Oland Breweries in the Cape Breton area. During
that time, he organized the Labatt Lite 24 Hour Relay and helped raise
over one million dollars for the Pediatric Ward of the Cape Breton
Regional Hospital. Nipper will always be known for his generosity, his
huge heart and his sense of humor. He was also known for his love of
children and family. It was not uncommon to see him and his boys
together, whether for hockey, motocross or just hanging out. He was
blessed with his first granddaughter five months ago. Nipper was an
avid lover of music, especially live Rock « n » Roll concerts.
His favorite band was always Led Zeppelin. This was second only to his
love of speed and boats. To him, second place was the first loser. For
years, he was one of the organizers of the Cape Breton Poker Run on
the Bras d’Or Lakes.
Nipper is survived by his wife and soulmate, Dorothy
(Latham); sons, Justin (Shea), Sydney, A. J. (Logan), Edmonton and
Ian, Calgary; granddaughter, Zoey; sisters, Sharon Sampson, Louisdale
and Helena (Norman) Sampson, Edmonton; brother, Fabian (Diane),
Toronto; sister-in-law, Gladys, Ontario, as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Donna
Beeching and brother, Gary Libbus.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held
at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 26 at 2 p.m., with Rev.
Albert Maroun officiating.
