Abby-Rae Marie Adams, of Calgary, Alberta, was granted her angel wings on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the age of 24 years. She is now in the loving arms of her “Mama” (Grandma Trudel).
September 24, 1993 was a glorious day in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan as this was the blessed day that Abby made her entrance into the world.
Abby was deeply loved by so many people. She was her mother Jamie’s pride and joy and brought a lifetime of laughter, worry, heartache but most of all joy into her Mom’s world. Abby was very close to her baby sister Delilah who she referred to as her “little pickle”. Abby was a beautiful singer and she passed on her love of music and joy of singing to Delilah.
Abby’s memory will live on in Delilah, whom she loved more than anything else, even when they were teasing each other as true sisters always do. It was clear to all who knew the two of them, just how strong their loving connection was for one another.
Abby will be deeply missed by her true love Devin. The late-night laughter they shared after their many adventures will always be remembered. Their two hearts were meant for each other and they shared an unbreakable bond that will continue to last forever.
Abby will also be profoundly missed by her “Pops” (George Trudel), who was the only one brave enough to ride the world’s highest roller coasters sitting next to her. Poor Pops had to wear his earplugs to try and block out the screams of fear from Abby. Those screams announced to the world that she was living life and having fun and it may just have been possible that the entire world heard those joyous screams too.
Abby was very close to and will be dearly missed by her Auntie Carrie and cousins Steven and Liam.
Abby will also be missed by her many friends and family across Canada, the United States and Costa Rica. Any chance she had, Abby would tell her friends “to always love with no fear” and would want them to do just that today.
Abby’s love of gymnastics blossomed in her earliest years, which eventually led to her coaching the sport she so dearly loved at Altadore Gymnastics Club. Her ability to flip and do handstands eventually steered her toward catching some waves on her surfboard on the beaches of Costa Rica. Despite her massive fear of fish, there was no doubt that surfing was the place where she truly felt alive and free. She participated and managed a 3rd place finish in a surfing competition in December 2017 in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
Abby graduated with Honours from Foundation for the Future Charter Academy. In true Abby style, her favourite class was drama. This influenced her to become the lead actress and singer in her Grade 12 performance of the musical “Annie”. Abby was also fanatical about Harry Potter and believed in the underlying messages about love and courage. Abby had recently returned to Bow Valley College with aspirations to become a nurse as it was her goal to have a career in which she could help others.
Although Abby was so young, she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. Abby’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her beautiful smile, gentle touch, unique and infectious laugh, high-pitched enduring scream and incredible sense of humour brought so much joy to those who knew her throughout her short, yet very memorable life.
Abby’s love of animals was without equal. She loved her fur babies and Stitch was her “frogo-doggo”. On her trips to Costa Rica, she wanted to save every puppy that she saw on the beach.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Hillhurst United Church (1227 Kensington Close NW) at 1:00 pm. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Abby’s family through www.evanjstrong.com.
