Donald Elliott MacDonald
1941-2018
Donald Elliott MacDonald (Donnie the Barber), 77, of
Greenwood Road, Thorburn, passed away on December 20, 2018 at the
Aberdeen Hospital with his loving family by his side after a
courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Egerton to late parents Mildred
(Anderson) MacDonald and Donald F.
MacDonald
Donnie was a well-respected barber in New Glasgow for
over 50 years and was always known as « Donnie the
Barber ». In his later years you could find Donnie working on
his property where he built his little park for many to enjoy the
gardens and maple trees.
Donnie is survived by his loving and caring partner
Ella « Chub » Anderson, who gave him the strength to
enjoy his life to the end. He will be sadly missed by his son Don-Alan
(Erin) and his grandson and fishing buddy, Justin « Big
Mac » (Crystal), who he was incredibly proud of every day.
Donnie leaves behind brothers Alan (Gloria), Philip (Barb), and Bryan
(Melody), sisters Edie (Donnie) Gillis and Laurie (Gary) Kolstee,
former daughter-in-law Candace and many nieces and nephews. He is also
survived by his favorite furball, Sam the Cat, and his feathered
friends, Joe and Clowa the crows.
Donnie was predeceased by the love of his life and
first girlfriend, Jessie. They were married in 1961 and remained so
until her passing in 2007. He was also predeceased by brothers Melvin,
Vincent, and Joseph (in infancy), and sister Dorothy
Johnston.
Dad had a fear o f flying and wasn’t sure
about his afterlife destination. He wasn’t sure on heaven
because he believed he wouldn’t know anyone, but he was sure
he would eventually get to meet his hero, and best friend Mr.
Alexander Keith.
Visitation will be on December 30, 2018 from 6-9 pm
at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Private internment of
cremains will take place at a later date.
