Elma Doreen Terris (Reimer) was born in Steinbach, MB on Dec. 15, 1945. She grew up there alongside of two sisters(Elaine, Abigail) and one brother(Vernon) until meeting Ed Reimer and moving to Winnipeg, MB. She gave birth to three boys: First Darin was born in Winnipeg and then Darcy and Dale who were born in Abbotsford where her parents, John and Mary Martens also moved and started a raspberry farm in the mid 1960’s.
She came to faith in Jesus along with sister Elaine in June 1956 at the age of 11. Elma always had a strong faith and raised her boys to be strong Christian men. She always had the utmost concern for family and people in her life. One of her favorite activities was having coffee with friends at Muffin Break in Abbotsford. She attended church when she could and supported her boys in going to various youth groups both in Grace Mennonite Church and Sevenoaks Alliance Church.
She supported Ed in his work as a car salesman and her boys through school years until they left home for college and or work. She had a difficult marriage and, after all her sons were old enough, she left to be single and support herself working at several grocery stores such as Safeway and Funks Supermarket.
A few years later Elma met and began dating Jim Terris and later married in 1997. As Jim is employed in the trucking industry, Elma supported him in his work while at the same time working at several grocery stores in Clearbrook. She even joined Jim from time to time on some of his long distance trips.
After finding an irregularity in her eye after an exam, she was sent straight to the neurologist where she was eventually diagnosed with both dementia and Parkinson’s disease. As is often the case, her body showed signs of slowing and rapid decline due to these conditions. Her memory slowed and she began to have difficulty with mobility. It was then that family decided it best to have her stay at the Tabor home at least periodically when Jim was away on road trips. As time and the effects of the disease wore on, Doctors and family thought it best not to move her between home and the Care home any longer. She fell twice in recent months and her limited mobility took a toll on her and she passed peacefully on November 24, 2018.
Elma is survived by her husband Jim, sisters Elaine and Abigail, three sons Darin, Darcy, Dale and their wives Kenda and Cora along with 9 beautiful grandchildren. Special thanks goes to the Doctors, Nurses, Jim Terris (and his sister) and sister Elaine for the support and care shown her in later years and while at the Tabor Home. A celebration of life is scheduled at Sevenoaks Alliance Church in their community room n December 15th at 1 pm.
