Richard (Dick) Frank McLeod
Age 72 years, late of Lampman, Sask
Richard Frank McLeod passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a battle with cancer on November 21, 2018 at Estevan, SK.
He is survived by his three daughters, Darlene (Barry) Gray, Kyle and Colin; Della (Blake) Dube, Lainey and Kailey and Donna (Del) Rae, Taylor and Tyvan; his partner, Elda McCurdy and her son Terry.
Dick is also survived by his brothers, John and Rod (Elaine) and their children Jeff (Ali) & Scout; and Dustin (Jose), and numerous cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Ella, and many aunts and uncles.
Dick was born on August 7, 1946 to Russell and Ella (Joyce) in Dodsland, SK. He was raised on the family farm at Millerdale and helped with raising of the animals and working in the fields. He attended school in Dodsland and Plenty.
He played hockey in his teen years and was on the Dodsland Bantam C team when they won the provincial title in 1960-61. This must be where his grandsons get their hockey skills from!
When he was married, he started working for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool as an elevator agent and moved around to many locations with the last stop being Feudal. He then made a career change to work as a battery operator with Esso in Lampman. He continued working in the oilfield with other companies as well. His interest in trucking led him to hauling fifth wheel trailers from the United States to Canada and then driving a water hauling truck. He also worked for some local rural municipalities before retiring.
Dad spent his summer vacations at the cabin at Cochin even though he wasn’t really a lake person. He taught his girls how to waterski so they would enjoy the lake. In the winter, he shared his enjoyment of skidooing with his girls which they still enjoy today. He took his family camping in a tent when they were young and traded that in for camping in a motorhome with Elda in recent years.
He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in hockey, curling, volleyball and dancing. He was very proud of how well they did in their activities and in school. When the grandkids were young, he said that having tea parties with the girls was much easier on him than playing hockey with the boys!
Although usually very quiet, he had a good sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. He enjoyed reading true war stories and watching war movies.
Dad requested that no funeral be held but please think of him while you have a drink of rum and Coke!
Those so wishing may make donations in Dick’s memory to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (designate to the Regina Cancer Patient Lodge) 200 – 4545 Parliament Avenue, Regina, SK S4W 0G3 or a charity of your choice.
