Frieda peacefully went to her eternal home on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the age of 93. She is survived by her daughters: Sharon Smood (Larry) of Port Alberni, BC, Elaine Kennedy of Scottsdale, AZ, Daphne Harris (Sean) of Parksville, BC and Beverley McGurk (Ted) of Vancouver, BC; sons Gordon (Lora) of Edmonton, AB and John of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren Manuela, Richard, Melinda, Tanya, Yvonne, Jeremy, Nicholas, Suzanne, Shannon, Austin and Carly, thirteen great grandchildren and her sister Kay Michel. She is predeceased by her loving husband Leonard, her eldest son Allan, two brothers John and Robert, second husband Joseph Lischka and son-in-law Craig McCuaig.
Frieda was born to John and Emma Bogner in St. Gregor, SK. She was proud to be a twin to her brother John. It was in St. Gregor that she met her husband Leonard; they married Oct 15, 1946 and moved to Muenster, SK where they raised seven children.
She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and an active board member of the Catholic Women’s League. In 1978 Frieda and Leonard retired to Kelowna, BC. Frieda was very involved in bowling, cribbage, scrabble and loved gardening. Frieda and Leonard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996 surrounded by family and friends.
After Leonard’s death in 2000, Frieda continued her community involvement at Sunrise Village. She moved to Calgary, AB in 2005 to live with her daughter Daphne and family. On December 13, 2006 Frieda married family friend Joseph Lischka and they enjoyed 12 happy years together in Kelowna, BC.
Frieda will be deeply missed by her loving family.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd. Kelowna, BC with Father Wayne Pfliger officiating. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, www.alzheimer.ca. We would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Mission Creek Landing who comforted and took excellent care of our Mother over the last ten months and made it a safe and peaceful home for her.
