Lee Wegner nee Pattyn 2018

Obituary Overview
Lee Wegner (née Pattyn)
December 2, 1927 – November 11, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lee Wegner, at the St. Boniface Hospital on November 11, 2018.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey, and her sister, Lorraine. Lee will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Diana Wegner (Ken), Debbie Burns (Bruce) and Shelley Trach (Wayne); grandchildren, Damien Burns (Samantha), Trina Burns (Glenn), Jennifer Trach (Sean) and Daniel Trach; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Jamie, Cassie, Luke, Gillian, Cameron and Kristjan. She also leaves behind two sisters, Cecile and Claudette, her brother, Marcel, and her sister-in-law, Pearl.
Lee was born on December 2, 1927 and spent her early years with her parents (Lucien and Rosa Pattyn) and four siblings in St. Anne, MB. As a teen, she moved to the city of Winnipeg, began working at St. Boniface hospital, and later, she switched over to the Eaton’s mail order department. In 1947 she met Harvey Wegner, they married in 1948, and settled into family life in St. James with their three daughters. She continued to hold a variety of part time positions as she raised her family, until retirement.
Lee came from a large, lively Francophone family of talented musicians, and, for many years to come, she carried on their traditions, charming both family and friends with the piano and accordion. She also loved to bowl, play cards, and attend bingo. Having fun with her friends was more important to Lee than the games themselves. She loved watching sports on TV and rarely missed a Jennifer Jones curling draw, Blue Bombers or Winnipeg Jets game. Spending time with her daughters’ families was her greatest joy. Family dinners, along with music and joking, always put a smile on her face. After Harvey’s passing, Lee lived in the Courts of St. James, and then the Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, where she made many friends.
Lee was a strong, supportive friend to her daughters and was always there to listen and help out when needed. As her daughters can attest, their mom’s life wasn’t always easy, yet, she consistently demonstrated strength, independence and a sense of humour. At no time was this more evident than during the last months of her life. She was the one who made decisions about how she lived her life, and, in accordance with her wishes, there will not be a funeral service. A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Thinking of her girls, Lee insisted on one last goodbye:
A Message to My Children
“When the day comes that no more
tomorrows I shall see,
one of my biggest regrets will be not being
able to be there
at your side should you need me.
My wish for you then will always be,
that your lives are long and happy,
and that you follow your dreams wherever
the road may lead.
When you look back and I am but a memory,
I pray that you always remember that you
were, are, and will always be
deeply loved by me.”
The family wishes to thank Dr. G. Breckman, Palliative Care Coordinators, Trisha Farkas and Manivan Hanslip and all of the wonderful staff, caregivers and volunteers at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Boniface Palliative Care.
