With his loving family by his side, James “Jim” Christopher Collison passed away peacefully after a six-year courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. He was 74.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Linda of 35 years, his parents Kathleen and Tom, and his infant daughter Julie. Jim is survived by his wife Charlotte, son Brad and his wife Melanie, son Jake and his wife Debbie, grandchildren Ciarra, Justin, and Taylor who were the light of his life, siblings Doug (Aline), Monica (Bob), and Bill (Kelly), and sister-in-law Helen (Ross). He has several nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including Charlotte’s family: Lori, Doug (Liz), Mike (Sue), and their families. Jim shared a lifetime of friendship with Laurie Lessard, her husband Dan, and their children Andrew (Linda) and Lindsay. He will be deeply missed.
To say that Jim was a hard-working man would be an understatement. He was so dedicated, and his work ethic was so strong, that right up to the end of his life, he was telling his family to stop worrying about him and go back to work. It’s no doubt that his hard work paid off, as Jim successfully ran his own Electrical Contracting Company, “Jim Collison Electric,” for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Motor Lords Car Club for 60+ years, and a long-time supporter of the Vintage Modified Club and the Waterloo Regional Kart Club. Cars and racing were his passion, and he won multiple awards for racing, and for his support of non-profit racing organizations over the years.
Friends and relatives are invited to “race” to Barthel Funeral Home (566 Queenston Road, Cambridge) on Thursday, October 11th for a visitation from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 12th at 11:00 am at St. Clements RC Church (745 Duke St., Cambridge). Interment will follow at Parklawn Cemetery, and a reception will be held at the Preston Legion Branch 126.
In memory of Jim, donations may be made to Lisaard House. The family would like to thank Dr. Chouinard, the staff at the Cambridge Medical Daycare, the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton, and the caring and compassionate staff at Lisaard House for all the help, attention, and tender care you all provided to Jim.
