Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
MAY, Rose
Passed away peacefully at West Part Long Term Care Centre, Toronto on October 31, 2018 in her 91st year after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by her younger sisters Rotraut (Dieter Mehling – deceased) and Gudrun. Loving aunt to Mike Mehling (Lynn Collins), Christine Mehling (Gordon Chu) and Dieter Mehling (Carmen). Loving great-aunt to Jordan, Mitchell, Corina, Samantha, Emmalie, Connor and Rachel. Rose was born in Belzig, Germany on April 19, 1928, the 2nd of 7 children. After WWII, she studied nursing in Germany. In 1957, she followed her sister Rotraut and husband Dieter to Canada. She quickly went through the retraining process and then landed in Burlington where she spent her career at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital from which she retired in 1993. Rose had a strong sense of fashion; often wearing clothing she had sewn or knitted herself. Classical music, traveling, baking and needlepoint were favourite hobbies. She would often bring wonderful German-style cakes to birthdays and other celebrations. She would knit sweaters or baby blankets for her friends and families. Her needlepoint work was much admired. Funeral service will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home – Crestview Chapel on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial to follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens.
If desired, donations in Rose’s memory can be made to Parkinson Canada.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Rose May 2018.
