Obituary of Terry LIGHT
A kind and generous man has left us. Terry died as he lived; with strength, courage and dignity. He was determined not to be a burden to his family because of having ALS/dementia.
Terry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anne, his son Kevin (Zoe), daughter Heather, cherished grandchildren Zara and Lochlan, mother Ellen, brothers Bob (Karen), Dave. He is also leaves behind extended family and many friends.
Terry was born in Bassano, Alta. Until his late teens, he lived in each of the Prairie provinces and it was then that he gained an affinity for the Prairies. After graduating from UBC (BScPharm) and living in Vancouver and Maple Ridge for several years, a job opportunity at Pharmasave brought Terry to Sidney in 1987. He loved living in Sidney. It was there that he raised his family and practiced as a pharmacist for many years. He felt fulfilled by the smiles and thank-you’s of his customers. He loved the natural beauty of the Peninsula where he breathed its fresh air, relaxed on its beaches, rowed on Elk Lake, and cycled its many roads. He loved Canada and pedalled every inch of it in 2009.
Terry admired our life together as a family. He was so proud of Kevin and Heather; the fine people they grew up to be. For many years, he enjoyed travels to their sporting events in BC, Canada, Europe and China. He was the official “drummer » for the Canadian Rowing Family support’oars. In recent years, he escaped the coast’s winter rains by enjoying new adventures with Anne in Arizona and Mexico.
In the weeks before he died, Terry said that he was grateful for a good life. He said that he had absorbed all the beauty and goodness that his family, friends and surroundings had given him. He was at peace.
Terry’s spirit now lives on in so many of us who will miss him dearly. Many thanks to our “village” who held us up during this surreal journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 1, 2018 2:00-5:00 at The Gardens at HCP 505 Quayle Rd. Victoria. Carpooling is encouraged.
Donations may be made to BC Children’s Hospital.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Terry
