“You Are Always Loved”
LETZ, Dieter – December 12, 1940 – October 26, 2018. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dieter on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 12:50 am with his family at his side, in his 78th year, after a courageous 16 month battle with brain cancer. Dieter was a devoted husband to Loretta, his wife of 53 years, and beloved father to two daughters, Jennifer (Ray) and Catharine and an adoring grandfather to Tyrell. Dieter will be missed by his sisters Gisela Hansel (nee Wehmeier, Bielefeld, Germany) and Brigitte Letz (Guelph, ON), his nieces and nephews, and many friends and acquaintances. He is predeceased by his father (Wilhelm Wehmeier, Bielefeld, Germany) in 1971, his mother Charlotte Letz in 1984 and his adoptive father, Ralf Letz (Alice) in 2013. Dieter was born in Bielefeld, Germany. In 1953 his parents immigrated to Canada and settled in Guelph. They became proud Canadian Citizens in 1958. In 1961 Dieter moved to Toronto, then to Scarborough where he eventually met Loretta. After dating for 2 years, they were married in 1965. They had two beautiful daughters, Jennifer and Catharine. In 1971 the family moved to Oshawa. Dieter began working for General Motors in 1976. He spent 26.4 years with General Motors and prior to that he spent 18 years in the paper box industry in Guelph and Toronto. He suffered a heart attack in 2001 and he retired in 2002 from G.M. In 2010 he and Loretta moved to Wilmot Creek, a retirement community where they met many new friends and acquaintances. Dieter enjoyed walking, bowling, euchre, bingo and shuffleboard, travelling to anyplace warm, and was a Blue Jays and Maple Leafs fan. He especially enjoyed having breakfast each morning at the Sunrise Griddle in Bowmanville. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and his family always came first.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcastle Funeral Home, 386 Mill St. S., Newcastle, ON L1B 1C6 905-987-3964, As per Dieter’s wishes cremation has already taken place and there will be no service held. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Wilmot Creek Wheelhouse Recreation Centre, 1 Wheelhouse Drive, Newcastle, ON, on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 1:30 pm. – 4 pm. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice, or to Lakeridge Health Oshawa or Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.newcastlefuneralhome.com
