Obituary Overview
Edna Joyce Clarke
Edna Joyce Clarke (Bishop) passed away peacefully on October 17, 2018 in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax at the age of 92. She was born to Fred and Henrietta (Fairn) Bishop in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, N.S. on August 29, 1926, the youngest of three daughters. After completing school in Lawrencetown she went to business college in Kentville, then to work with the school board in Windsor, N.S. Upon moving to Halifax she accepted a job with Maritime Tel & Tel where she met Reginald Clarke whom she subsequently married in 1953.
Joyce was a long-time member of St. David’s Presbyterian Church in Halifax and enjoyed helping out at numerous events, especially the bake sales. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining which gave pleasure to many family members and neighbours who were happy recipients of her hospitality and food gifts through the years. Joyce and Reg always welcomed guests warmly at their home on Crestview Drive. Joyce showed a keen interest in her family and friends and was quick to offer help when needed. She had innate musical talent and could sit at the piano without music and easily entertain those in her company. She was also interested in the history of the area in which she grew up and perused many books by local authors.
Joyce is survived by her son, Leonard, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald, and sisters Helen (Claude Elliott) and Florence(Charles Black).
Joyce had been a resident of St. Vincent’s Nursing Home for nearly six years and enjoyed the many chances there to make new friends. Leonard sends heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Vincent’s for the many kindnesses and warm interest shown in his mother during her final years.
A Celebration of Life ceremony and interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to St. David’s Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Edna Joyce Clarke 2018..
