Death Notice
PATTERSON, Ellen Irene Victoria (MacKenzie) – Ellen, age 90 died, peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at Kensington Village, London. Ellen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Floyd Patterson (2008) and infant son Matthew (1965). Ellen will be lovingly remembered by her sons Kirk (Barbara), Robert (Regina), and Charles (Caroline), all of London; daughters Marlene (Bruce Hiebert) Abbotsford, BC, and Mary Ellen (Martin Ferguson) Calgary, Alberta. She was the proud grandmother of Melissa, Katherine, Grant, Jairus, Taylor, Gregory, Daniel, Emily, Sydney, and Hillary and great-grandmother to Hadley, Connor, and Oscar. Survived by her dear brother Ken (Gladys) MacKenzie of Sault Ste Marie. Predeceased by her parents and sister Gloria McKersie, brothers Roy and Jack MacKenzie.
Ellen was born September 3, 1928 in Bruce Mines, Ontario to Malcom MacKenzie and Anna Morbin. Ellen grew up in Bruce Mines, on the beautiful shores of Lake Huron in a busy household with a large extended Scottish, Swedish, and English family nearby. She graduated from St Mary’s School of Nursing in Sault Ste. Marie in 1949, and married Floyd on November 8, 1950 in the Bruce Mines United Church. Ellen and Floyd began married life in Holtyre, where Floyd taught and Ellen nursed. Throughout their careers they lived in a variety of small towns in Ontario. In Matheson, Kirk and Bob arrived. The family grew larger after a move to Levack with the arrival of Marlene, Mary Ellen and Charles. In 1965 the family moved to Rodney where Floyd became the first principal of Aldborough Public School. Ellen joined the nursing staff at Beattie Haven Retirement Home in Wardsville in 1966. The family moved to Wardsville for a brief period before finally settling in Glencoe. Ellen retired from Beattie Haven as Head Administrator in 1994, and, with Floyd, they moved to London to be close to family.
Visitation on Sunday from 2-4 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, London where the funeral service will be conducted on Monday, October 15 at 11 am. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to: United Way Elgin Middle or Four Counties General Hospital, Newbury. The family would like to thank the excellent care that Ellen received from staff at Kensington Village.
