Obituary for
Russell Peter Werenka
On October 3, 2018, Russell Peter Werenka of Sangudo, AB, passed away at the age of 72 years.
Russell is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Shelly (Dale) Dodgson of Sangudo, AB, Karrie (Kirt) McGhee of Woodlands, TX and Curtis (Rene) of Sangudo, AB; grandchildren, Cole and Kyle, Kaelyn and Kai, and Jorja and Van; sisters, Vera (Jerry) Pagotto, Tillie Ostrowercha, Olga (Joe) Blahun and Ann Blahun; and many more dear relatives and friends. Predeceased by his granddaughter, Dakota; parents, John and Agrpina; brothers, Orest (Florence) and Terry; sisters, Love and Florence; and brothers-in-law, Ray, Steve and John.
Russell will be remembered for his deep love of family, and his love of the land. He grew up in Royal Valley district and was the proud owner of Royal Valley Cattle Co. where he raised “the only breed worth raising”, Red Angus. Russell enjoyed fishing at Slave Lake, sledding and playing cards. He was a perfectionist and a jack of all trades. His personality was larger than life; he was Papa the Legend, and he’ll be especially loved and missed by his dear grandchildren. To his family and all who knew him, Russell loved “red paint, Dodge trucks and Royal Valley”.
Russell has made peace with himself and will be forever loved and remembered.
A private Memorial Service will be held followed by a private inurnment in South Park Cemetery.
