OBITUARY
Marion Mills
4 November , 1923 – 29 September , 2018
It is with sadness, the family of Marion Mills announce her passing on Saturday, September 29th, 2018, at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital in Halifax following a severe stroke. She was 94 years old and was looking forward to her 95th birthday in November. Born in West Pennant, Marion was the daughter of George and Sophia Gray and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Though she went back to West Pennant to visit many times, she was heard to say that she was happy to escape the fog.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Walter (Piv) Mills and her twelve brothers and sisters, Bertha, John, Clara, Sister Maria Florence, Gordon, James, Lillian, George, Madeline, Cyril, Norman, and Clyde. She is survived by her loving children, John (Belva) Mills, Mary (David) Trott, Ronald, Marilyn ( Hugh) MacDonald, Susan (Bruce) LeBlanc and Patrick ( Ann) Mills. She was the proud and loving grandmother to Steve, Shelley, Dave, Jennifer, Chris, Tara, Richard, Mark, Mike and Sarah and great grandmother to nine more.
Mom was said to be a strong woman. She kept her family safe and well cared for during the long intervals when Dad was at sea with the Royal Canadian Navy. She could handle anything at home including cutting down a tree in the yard to keep us warm. She was happy in the house Dad built where she stayed to the very end. Thank you to Ron, at home, who looked after her so well in later years. Mom was a great cook and baker who delighted in turning out twelve homemade pies at a time. Her children waited for Christmas each year for her raisin bread, coconut candy and so many treats lovingly prepared. Her family was her whole life.
She was a faithful member of Saint John the Baptist parish until later years when health issues confined her to her home. She read the parish news each week with interest.
Arrangements are under the care of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax where visitation will be held Wednesday, October 3rd, 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at Saint John the Baptist church, Thursday, October 4th, at 11 am. Interment will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery for family only. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
