We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of John Bernard Hebert, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle on September 4, 2018.
John is survived by his wife Roslyn Nugent; four children Lawrence (Christine), Shanelle, Cary and Kimberley (Brad); four grandchildren Logan, Brennon, Lacy and Fae; sister Pierrette; brothers Rene (Jeannie) and Gilles (Nancy); nieces and nephews Jillian, Kyle (Lea), Marc, Christa, Danielle and Max; his four step-children Joe (Dani), Ajaleigh (Alec), David (Layne) and Mike (Emily) and their children; five sisters-in law and five brothers-in-law and their families.
He was predeceased by his mother Lillian Ann Marie (nee Thout), his father Maurice (Butch), his sister Dolores and his brother Denis.
John was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on June 4, 1946. Being in a family of six children his childhood memories were full of incredible unique stories that were filled with life lessons and wonderful experiences, including a strong love of music. John’s larger than life personality and zest for knowledge, whether it be history, religion, business or politics, was founded from that upbringing within his colourful larger than life family. John’s adapted love of music influenced him to whistle and sing his entire life, a truly strong baritone voice heard by all. You would perhaps hear him first but once you saw John he would be sure to introduce himself to you and with his charm and warm genuine interest in people he would be a man you would never forget. His stories were always funny and entertaining and he would capture your interest, so much so, one would always want to hear more and the conversations were lengthy. John had a wonderful sense of humour and was always the life of the party!
John graduated from the University of Manitoba (Agriculture) in 1978 and throughout his career he worked for Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker, the Department of Animal Science (U of M) and started businesses spanning over many years. He was an incredible salesman and brought those skills with him wherever he worked. He had a strong work ethic and was driven by problem solving and coming up with creative practical solutions. One of John’s biggest strengths in the workplace and in his personal life was his ability to think outside the box and see the forest through the trees.
John lived life to its fullest and always pursued his dreams. One of those dreams included his winter home in Florida where many days were spent landscaping and maintaining the property and cooling off in the pool, then going for a stroll in his recently restored 1946 Studebaker Golden Hawk. Many great memories and family times were enjoyed in Florida. He will be truly missed by all.
We invite all who knew John to come to his celebration of life that will be held Saturday June 1, 2019. Details regarding time and location will be made available closer to the date.
We would like to thank the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the I.H. Asper Clinical Research Institute for giving John so much of a chance towards his recovery and also the tremendous generosity of compassion, respect and sharing of medical knowledge with our family during this very difficult time.
