Anita Marie Guimond (1927-2018) – Passed away peacefully at her home in Kirkland Lake on Saturday September 22nd, 2018 surrounded by family following a year long battle with cancer. Anita was born in Rouyn-Noranda in 1927 and has been a Kirkland Lake resident since 1957. Anita was predeceased by her parents Laurette and Achille (Art) Lafrance, brother Achille Lafrance of Quebec City, and great-granddaughter Siobhan McKay (Toronto). She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Noel, children Mike (Sue) Guimond, Lise (Larry) McKay, Luc Guimond (Deborah Hutchison) all of Kirkland Lake, grandchildren Jamie (Nicole) of CFB Borden, Ian and Kaitlyn McKay of Kirkland Lake, Darian, Baylee, and Lanie Guimond of Kirkland Lake, great-grandson Cayden McKay of CFB Borden. She also leaves behind sisters Mae (late Louis) Bilodeau of Sherbrooke, Jeanne (late Sam) Aquino of Timmins, sister-in-law Fleur-Ange Lafrance of Quebec City, In-laws Ghislain (Henriette) Guimond of Gatineau, Carmen (late Frank) Savage of Rouyn-Noranda, Firmin (Jeannine) Guimond of Hamilton, and Gilbert (Pauline) Guimond of Rouyn-Noranda, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Anita was a loving and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her kitchen had a revolving door for friends, family, and surprise out of town guests – she never met a crowd she could not feed. Her greatest loves in life were her family, travelling, and CNN. She enjoyed a good debate, political or otherwise, and was not shy in sharing her opinion. Anita’s family would like to extend a most sincere thank you for the excellent care given by Donna Young and her team (CCAC/LHIN), Debra Burtschenko, and the Victorian Order of Nurses – especially Pauline, Kim and Erin who brought great comfort to Anita and her family during her final days. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
