Obituary Overview
Thomas Cherwinski
It is with profound sadness that we share with you the passing of our lovely Thomas with his family at his side. Dear husband to Helen (his “queen”), devoted father to Robert, Lana (Donnie), Lori (Matt) and proud Papoo/Grandpa to Laura, Tristan, and Kennedy. Tom was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Pearl, mother-in-law Vicie Schilling, brothers Ray, Eddie, Chris, and infant son Darin. He will be forever remembered by his siblings Shirley, John and Gloria, sisters-in-law Marlene and Lorraine, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Tom was born and raised in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. He worked hard at SaskPower and then moved to Winnipeg in the early 1960’s, working his way up to become a Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the City of Winnipeg.
Tom really enjoyed his early retirement. He loved travelling to Mexico and perfecting his yard. Hailing from Saskatchewan he was a Big Riders Fan. He was an avid curler, baseball and hockey player, but was most passionate about his game of golf. He could often be heard to say “Let the club do the work.” He was always patient and calm when teaching others.
Tom worked exceptionally hard at everything he did. His biggest challenge was providing care for his son Robert, lovingly making sacrifices to do so.
We would like to thank the nurses and doctors at 3S (Grace Hospital) and 6E (St. Boniface Hospital) for their dedicated care and compassion. We were praying for recovery from this devastating condition, but God had other plans.
Cremation will take place, and as promised Helen will bring him home.
A gathering to celebrate the life of Tom will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow – to honour Tom’s passion, please wear a golf shirt.
Flowers gratefully declined, in Tom’s memory please consider a donation to ImagineAbility.
We love and miss you so very much. Our hearts are breaking.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Thomas Cherwinski 2018..
