Tom Rath
1946-2018
At the Kings County Memorial Hospital, with his wife Fran at
his side, the passing of Thomas Harry Rath, age 72, of Cardigan,
loving and devoted husband of Frances Feher, occurred on Sunday,
September 2, 2018.Tom was born in Hamilton, ON, June 8, 1946; he was
the son of the late John Robert and Dorothy (Boose) Rath. Tom is
survived by his step children, Esther Bilodeau (Luc Lapointe),
Michelle Filion-Chappell (Anson Chappell) and Andrea Filion (Phillip
Parke); step grandchildren, Cassandre and Vivianne Lapointe; brother,
John Robert Rath; sister, Catherine Rath; brother-in-law, Jim Walton;
nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister, Patricia Walton nee
Rath and brother-in-law, Rick Rath.
Tom was a
retired federal pubic servant who began his career with the Federal
Government working for Canada Post as a mail sorter and eventually as
one of the many who assigned postal codes in southern Ontario. He
moved on to become a Human Resources Officer with Veterans Affairs
Canada, relocating to Charlottetown when the department was
decentralized in the late 1970’s, early 1980’s. He
subsequently served with Industry, Trade and Commerce as Vice Consul
for Trade and Tourism at Canada House in London, England, and later,
in Chicago, Illinois,.
Upon retirement at age
50, he moved to Murray Harbour North where he operated Lady
Catherine’s Bed and Breakfast from June 1996 to August 2006. Tom was
involved in numerous organizations during that period and
subsequently. They include:

Tom
also started up Junior Writers groups in Georgetown and Montague and
published a series of children’s books featuring the artistry of young
Islanders.
No visitation by
request. A Celebration of Life Service to be announced. Ferguson Logan
Montague Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements. Donations in
Tom’s memory may be made to the following organizations: World Vision
Canada, the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Foundation, Kings County Memorial Hospital or Myeloma Canada.
