ROGERS, Katherine “Kay” Elizabeth
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine (Kay) Elizabeth Rogers (nee Porter) on August 24th, at Kingston General Hospital, in her 80th year.
A long-time resident of Kingston, Kay joined the RCAF at the age of 18, married Fred Rogers, a military policeman, in 1959, and lived and worked in many places including France, Germany, Cold Lake, Alta, Ottawa, Calgary and Tuktoyaktuk. She was one of life’s doers – a radio announcer, CBC researcher, holder of a private pilot’s license, journalist, author, Brown Owl, arctic oil field worker, real estate agent, solo world traveler, enthusiastic community volunteer, avid collector of interesting people, and a life-long student of anything and everything that was new and exciting.
Kay is greatly missed by her daughters, Susan (John) Dixon of Chandlers Ford, UK and Debbie (Gary) Foley of Oromocto, NB; four grandchildren, Tyler (Katalin) Foley, Keegan Foley, Brennan (Andrea) Foley, Gabrielle Wood; a great grandson, Owen Foley; two brothers, Jim (Paula) Porter and Ron (Cheryl) Porter, both of Kingston; sister-in-law Pat Rogers of Prince George, BC; several nieces and nephews spread across Canada, and a great many special friends, neighbours and colleagues. Kay was predeceased by her husband Fred, parents Frederick and Elsie Porter, brother-in-law Ron Rogers of Vernon, BC, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helen and Jack Woods of Calgary. Kay’s honorary pall bearers are Heather Millar, Michelle Ashcroft, Gail Heywood, Susan Brake, Naz Behjat, Paula Porter and Cheryl Porter. The family are extremely grateful to Kay’s loyal friends Heather Millar, Bernie MacKay, Gail Heywood and Naz Behjat for their dedication to Kay‘s care and well-being during her illness, and to the caring medical team and staff at Kingston General Hospital.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, September 12, at 10.30 am at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston. Although Kay loved flowers, she requested that any memorials be given as donations to the Military Police Blind Children’s Fund.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Katherine
