Richard Griffin
Richard Clarke Griffin, 86, after a lengthy illness with prostate and bone cancer, Tuesday August 14/18 at the Georgian Bay General Hospital.
He was predeceased by his former wife of 30 years, Patricia Griffin, and leaves behind his son Michael and his wife Dorothy, his daughter Janet and her ex husband James Scott, his son William and his wife Kristine Rue, his daughter Carolyn and her husband Gary Dover, and his daughter Susan and her husband Peter Eakin. Grandchildren are Thorold, Christie, Michael, Sean, Jake and Drew and infant David who died in 1987. He leaves his long time companion of ten years, Mary-Lou Coulton and her family.
Richard was born in Toronto and relocated to the Balm Beach cottage and renovated it into a house in the mid sixties, He worked in home construction and sales, and in his forties, retrained as an upholsterer and ran his own business, Griffin’s Upholstery for 35 years. He loved fishing and boating and acting in The Huronia Players productions. He was a huge hockey and sports fan and helped his daughter care for her horse in the back yard. He visited Sweden with his son’s hockey team and also enjoyed travel to Florida and Cuba. He loved music and dancing and live theatre. He loved his cat Mat Sundin. He loved his friends and neighbours and worked hard all his life. A visitation will be held at the Nicholls Funeral Home on Sunday August 19, 2018 starting at 1p.m. until the time of a service at 2p.m. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
