Arthur Robinson
1944-2018
Arthur G. Robinson – It is with sadness that we
announce the passing of Arthur (Art) on Wednesday, August 08,
2018.
Art was born on September 9, 1944 in Longeuil,
Québec. He was the oldest son of the late Arthur and
Gertrude (Sheppard).
Left to honor and remember his love are: his wife
of 50 years Elizabeth (Crandall), his daughter Joette (Steve) Girardi,
his grand-daughter Lauren and grandson Christopher.
Art was predeceased by his sons Jeremy and
James.
He is survived by his sister Mary Ritchie (late
Glen) and his brother Donnie (Elizabeth), as well as several nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and special
friends.
Art enjoyed spending time outdoors especially in
his gardens in Iron Bridge and in Salisbury. He enjoyed fishing,
hunting and going to camp with the boys (John B., Dave E., Paul P.,
Gary G., Stu C., Colin C., Dave P., Gerry B., Dave U., Errol C.). His
best fishing partner was Christopher G. Art’s love of fishing began as
a young boy on Veteran’s Avenue with Allan O.
Art loved to roam and he incorporated his wood
carving and Liz’s quilting and knitting into a yearly adventure. He
looked forward to the Wood Carving Roundup, especially the one in
Branson, Missouri. On some occasions, sister Mary and her caravan
would join the « trek ».
His love of sports was not that of an athlete but
rather one of an enthusiastic spectator. His Super Bowl and Grey Cup
festivities started long ago on Fredericton Road with Carolyn and the
late Rand Smith. The festivities carried on in later years with his
son-in-law Steve and friends.
After Brett Favre finally retired and Aaron
Rodgers became the Q.B. for the Green Bay Packers, Art was able to
witness in person the Lambeau Leap.
His favourites hockey team was the Peterborough
Petes Major Bantam, supporting #18 Christopher G.
Although he did not understand fully the concept
of competitive dance, he enjoyed watching Miss Lauren compete in Hip
Hop, Tap, Jazz, Modern and Contemporary dance.
Moving back to Salisbury in 2016, Art could often
be found in the early mornings with Doug Cochrane at their favourite
« T » spot. Brother Donnie was also among first
flight.
Art also enjoyed the Peter Street Lawn Challenge
and the Snow Blowing Marathons with Barry Colpitts.
Art had a palate not only for hot sauce and
P.B.R., he enjoyed the single malts, especially Lagavulin. This
appreciation grew with sampling with son-in-law Steven, nephews Peter
Van Olne and Richard Cormier, and neighbours Paul Stemp and Andrew
Astrom.
Art was always very good at helping his daughter
with yard work and they enjoyed buidling projects together. The sauna
at Bright Lake with the measurement of strong 92 is an example of
quality time spent together.
In 1967 Art worked at Maritime Air Service Ltd. He
earned his qualifications as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with
Lorne Amos. In 1975 he went to work with JD Irving in forest patrol.
Stationed mostly in Juniper, NB he was lucky to meet his good friend
Levi Grant. Art was the chief pilot with both of these
companies.
Art finished his flying/maintenance career as a
pilot-engineer with the Federal Forest Branch based in Sault Ste.
Marie, Ontario.
Art retired and moved to Bright Lake in 2006 until
his move back to Salisbury, NB in 2016.
Family will receive relatives and friends at the
Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106 (372-4800) on Tuesday, August
14 from 3 to 5 pm. There will be a private family graveside
service at Pine Hill Cemetery.
If desired, donations to the Salisbury United
Church or Pine Hill Cemetery would be appreciated by the
family.
