LANDRY, John Francis « Jack »
– Age 77 years of Port Hawkesbury, passed away
peacefully surrounded by his family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New
Glasgow, on Monday, July 30th, 2018.
Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather and looked up to by all his siblings. He took pride
and great joy in his family. He was a hard worker and a huge
presence in the community. Jack worked at the Co-op Building
Supplies in Port Hawkesbury for 32 years. He then went on to work at
Schwartz Furniture Store in Port Hastings for 18 years. He was a proud
member of the Lions Club for over 40 years, lifetime member of the
Lion Foundation with dedicated Humanitarian Service Award and served
as President and Director. Jack volunteered many years to
Strait Area Minor Hockey Association. He enjoyed a good crib game, was
an avid bowler, enjoyed many rounds of golf, and loved his Blue Jays
and Maple Leafs. Jack had a great sense of humor that was
best known by his family for a side joke or subtle
smirk.
Jack was the oldest son of the late Maynard Landry and Ann
Laffin. He grew up and made a life for himself and his
family in Port Hawkesbury with his loving wife, Elda (Jessie) of 54
years. Jack will be deeply missed by his wife and children, Kara
(Anthony) Malley, Vancouver BC; John (Sheila) Landry, Port Hawkesbury;
Lisa Landry and Ed Hubbard, Kentville.
His pride and joy were his six grandchildren, Kristen (Jamie)
Fraser, Fort Lauderdale FL; MacKenzie Warner, Chatham, ON; Mitchell
(Dominica) Landry, Kingston, ON; Tyler (Janelle) Landry, Port
Hawkesbury; Kyle Landry, Yellowknife NWT; and Morgan Landry, Port
Hawkesbury; four great-grandchildren, Diana Landry, Mabel Fraser,
Athena Landry and Evelyn Fraser. He will also be greatly
missed by his ten siblings, Pauline Hayman, New Glasgow; Patsy
Bourguignon, Stellarton; Peter (Marg) Landry, Trenton; Nancy Landry,
Stellarton; Glen Landry, Stellarton; Linda (Bill) MacKay Trenton;
Billy Landry, Trenton; Theresa (Dave) Wing, Pictou County; Darlene
(Dave) Griffin, Trenton; Connie Landry Trenton. He was predeceased by
an infant brother.
Visitation will be held in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home,
Port Hawkesbury on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral mass will be
10 a.m. Saturday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port
Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in the
parish cemetery. Any memorial donations may be made to
Parkinson’s Society of Canada Maritime Region or to St.
