Robert George Long
1928 – 2018
On Wednesday July 11, 2018, Robert George Long, late of Estevan, Sask. entered into eternal rest at the age of 90 years.
Robert was born and raised in the North Portal District. At the age of 21 years, Robert started working for the Winnipeg Fuel Company at their strip mine in Roche Percee were he started out on the tipple as part of the cleanup crew. Robert moved to the Old Mac Mine and then Costello Mine. This life was not for Robert and he much preferred raising Hereford cattle which was a lot less dusty and noisy and did not smell of oil sprays.
At the age of 60 years Robert retired from farming and moved to Fort Qu’Appelle to enjoy the valley. In 2014, Robert returned to Estevan where he resided at Yardley Place. In October 2017 he moved to the Estevan Regional Nursing Home and then St. Joseph’s Special Care Home.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Amy Maude (Bramish) Long and his siblings, Stanley Long, Albert Long, Gladys Brinkworth and Ruby Babbings.
Left to cherish his memory are numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In following Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.
