Obituary Overview
Elvy Margret Remple
Elvy was born on June 25, 1927 in Kenora, Ontario. Her mom passed away when Elvy was 2 and the family moved to Winnipeg. The four children were placed in orphanages while her Dad looked for work. After several years the family was reunited. They lived on Atlantic Avenue and then on a small farm site.
Elvy attended the Swedish Baptist Church. It was there that a strong faith in God developed through the mentoring and friendship of several church ladies and friends. She remained active in the church (now Grant Memorial Church) her entire adult life teaching Sunday School, singing in the Golden Echoes choir and being a keen participant in the 55+ Sunday School class.
Elvy graduated from Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate, attended Winnipeg Bible College, was a member of God’s Invasion Army and started her working life as a secretary at Powell Equipment. She continued working throughout her adult life at places such as Clark’s, Alec Guberman & Son and Kay’s Wholesale Footwear.
Elvy married Ray on June 6, 1953. It was important for her to be 25 and not 26 years old on her wedding day! They had five children in the first nine years of marriage. They moved from Saskatoon to Anola, then to Winnipeg living at addresses on Alexander, Inkster, Dudley and Sandham. The last 15 years were spent at Linden Lake Terrace.
Mom showed great skill and efficiency in the kitchen and sewing room keeping five children fed and clothed. We never went hungry and always had clean (if patched) clothes to wear.
Mom loved her family immensely. She displayed an avid interest in each of our lives. As each of us married and our families grew, her love expanded, as well. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom leaves behind an incredible legacy that includes a sincere interest in others, great joy, laughter, innocence, an extraordinary positive outlook, a zest for life and a strong unshakeable faith. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
