On June 27, 2018, Wilfrid passed away at the Westman Nursing Home in Virden, Manitoba.
On February 11, 1932, Wilfrid was born on the family farm, not far from the one he later operated with his wife Margaret, and where they raised their children. Wilfrid was the second youngest born to Wilfrid and Amy Barré, living in the Belleview area along with his sisters Alice, Theresa, and Lois. He attended Belleview, then Pipestone School and later would attend St. Paul’s College in Winnipeg.He and Margaret lived on their farm for 58 years before moving to Virden in 2013; they had a mixed farm raising cattle and grain for many of those years. After two years of training, Wilfrid was ordained a Deacon August 19, 1977. He served the Parish of Sacred Heart and surrounding communities for nearly 40 years, but would add that this couldn’t have been possible without Margaret’s tireless support. Wilfrid chose to become a Deacon in order to love Jesus by serving those in need.
Wilfrid was fond of nature, and particularly Oak Lake, taking his young and growing family in the summertime.
He is survived by his sister Theresa, beloved wife Margaret, his children Colette (Don), Clarice (Shane), Marilyn (Don), Kevin (Judith), Paul (Joanne), 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by their son Roland.
The Evening Prayer Vigil will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church – Virden at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday July 1st. The Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2nd with Fr. Leo Fernandes officiating. Interment will be in Virden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity you choose, where others are in need.
