Sylvia (Langley) Dingle
1943-2018
Sylvia
(Langley) Dingle, 74, King’s Head, NS, died peacefully on
June 19, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones.
Born
in New Glasgow on Aug. 20, 1943 to the late G. Bain and Anne
(Bartlett) Langley, she spent part of her childhood in Ottawa and
Montreal, but always returned to her Nova Scotia roots. Sylvia was a
dedicated nurse and an engaged member of the community. She was a
talented pianist, organist and accompanist with a passion for
quilting, gardening and travel. She was a treasured friend to
many.
She
studied at Queens University and graduated from nursing at the
Montreal General in 1965. She paused her nursing career to raise her
family of four children in Westville and spent her free time
volunteering for many organizations, including the New Glasgow Music
Festival and the Aberdeen Hospital where she helped spearhead the
launch of the Aberdeen Hospital Foundation. With her children grown,
she returned to nursing at the Aberdeen. In her retirement, she
enjoyed winters in Florida, family time on the beach in Little
Harbour, a good hand of bridge and hours spent in her craft
room.
Sylvia
was predeceased by her beloved son, Peter Whitman. She is survived by
her husband, Duncan Dingle, and her children, Susan (Mick) Williams,
Janet (Candice Kanepa) Whitman and Barbara (Scott) Elliott and their
father, George Whitman, as well as grandchildren, Kyran, Bronwyn and
Rowan Williams and Casey, Wren and Oliver Elliott, brother, John
(Judy) Langley, sister, Linda (Norval) MacDonald, sister-in-law, Mary
Elizabeth Fleming and step-daughter, Donna Dingle Delgado and her
children, Christina and Robbie, along with nieces and nephews, Adam,
Andrew, Nicholas, Lauren, Cathy and Bruce.
The
family expresses its sincerest gratitude to the doctors and the nurses
of the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Visitation
will take place the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New
Glasgow, Friday, June 22, between 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral will be at
Trinity Untied Church at 11 am Saturday, June 23, Rev. Donna Tourneur
officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Sylvia may be
