Robert Alec Gillmore –Oct 2, 1958-June 1,2018
Bob was born in New Westminster to Robert and Curtis Gillmore. He lived in New Westminster and Burnaby before he moved to Sechelt in 1974. He finished his high school in Gibsons/Sechelt. He enjoyed many trips with family, camping, fishing, clamming, and boating. He had a sense for adventure, and was thrilled by the many new things he found on Cortes Island, and Yellowstone National Park. In school he enjoyed being a part of the band, playing the trombone, and he also enjoyed photography, which he used in the school and also in the community.
In 1976 he moved back to Vancouver, after completing Grade 12, and went to VCC to study printing mechanics. He became a service technician for AB Dick, and also worked for Heidelberg, Presstek, and presently MarcAndy. He had a dedication to his customers and always tried to give them the best of care.
Bob belonged to the New Westminster Lions since 1982, and was dedicated to working with them to serve the community. He was an active member of the club, and added a professional, friendly,and loyal dimension to the club. He was known for his dependability, and his ready smile, and was often called upon to flip the pancakes, sausages, or hotdogs for the club events. He also would willingly contribute, printing for the clubs, various events.
He met his wife Ruby in 1986, and was married in March 1988. They enjoyed many travels and adventures including canoeing the upper Yukon River in 1992, and travelling to Germany and France1987,Australia and Fiji,1991, and many other places. Bob was always ready to plan the next trip.
He was so happy to be the father of a beautiful daughter, Lindsay in 1994. The bond they formed over the years was very special, as he included her in his many volunteering ventures with the Lion’s Club.He also planned many family trips, which are remembered fondly. He was a great father and mentor.
Recently, Bob became ill, and the cancer quickly progressed. He passed away peacefully June 1,2018 in Ridge Meadows Hospital in the late evening. He will be dearly missed for his great smile and friendly, helpful nature. Due to the sudden onset of his illness, he was not able to give his regards to the many friends, family, and coworkers he so enjoyed. He fought hard to keep the battle going, but in the end the cancer overwhelmed him.
We will remember him always, and he is with us forever in our hearts.
