Obituary of Kenneth Coone
Kenneth Ernest Coone of Sus passed away peacefully at the Sus Health Centre on June 2, 2018 surrounded by people who loved him. He faced his Parkinson diagnosis the same way he tackled any challenge he faced in life, with courage, dignity and humility. He was one of the best and we will miss him immensely.
Ken was born in Winnipeg on August 20, 1928; the eldest son of the late Kenneth and Eleanor (Richardson) Coone.
He was the loving husband of Kay (Forsythe) for 65 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Larry Coone (Leslie), and his daughter, Janice Murray (Pat). Ken will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Jennifer Bernard (Trevor), Andrea Jeffrey (Tim), Emily Drake (Michael), Billy Coone (Lyndsay), Patrick Murray (Emma), his step-grandson Matthew Abell, and his great-grandchildren Kennedy and Kyle Bernard, Alyssa and Jaxen Jeffrey, Charlotte Drake and Olivia Coone. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, and several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Ken was the last surviving member of his immediate family, predeceased by his sister Leona Aiton and his brother Edward Coone. He was also predeceased by infant son, Stephen.
Ken retired from Dominion Stores after 35 years of service and then went on to work for Sus Co-op. His volunteer efforts were extensive; including St. John Ambulance, Scouts Canada, Big Brothers, Jaycees, Golden K, Meals-on-Wheels, EMO Co-ordinator, Masonic Lodge and Trinity Anglican Church Men’s Brotherhood. A national Canadian Volunteer Award was granted to Ken in recognition of his years of service. He was also a recipient of many awards including the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal.
Ken was an avid fisher and hunter and was a licensed guide. He spent many wonderful days enjoying his camp on the Miramichi and the trailer at TNT Campground. His other interests included golfing, canoeing, clogging, bridge, cribbage, fly-tying, and crokinole. He and Kay enjoyed many cruises and trips abroad. As busy as he was, he always had time for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him joy.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home (506-433-1176), 43 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, NB where visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8PM, with a Masonic Service starting at 5:30.
