Caroline Elizabeth
Ross – 87, Bible Hill.
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Caroline
Elizabeth Ross that occurred on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Colchester
East Hants Health Centre, following a brief illness. Born in West
Branch, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late Peter and
Katherine (MacKay) Sutherland.
Caroline was educated at Pictou Academy and Normal College.
She graduated and taught in Pictou County, PEI, London, Ontario and
New Brunswick. After moving to Bible Hill, she taught at North River
and finished her career at Bible Hill Elementary for 15 years. She had
a special place in her heart for all her students and followed their
progress in life with great interest. She was an honourary member of
St. David’s UCW and faithful member of St. David’s
United Church. She was a member of Retired Teachers Association of
Nova Scotia and was also an avid bowler.
Caroline is survived by her husband of 53 years, Carl;
sister, Mildred Boehk, Westville; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Muriel
Sutherland and Mrs. Bessie Sutherland, Scotsburn; special nieces,
Karen Carson, Westville; Gloria Reid, Earltown; nephews, Blair and
Blaine Sutherland, Scotsburn; Kenny and David Sutherland, Scotsburn;
great nieces, Karley, Erica, Tara; great nephew, Matthew. Along with
her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Hugh and Peter
Sutherland; brother-in-law, Ronald Boehk. Carl and his family would
like to thank the kind and compassionate staff of second floor
surgical unit for their loving care.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018,
at St. David’s United Church, 149 Pictou Road, Bible Hill,
Reverend Donna Lawrence officiating. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery,
Warren Drive, Bible Hill. Reception will follow in St.
David’s Hall. If so desired, donations in
Caroline’s memory to St. David’s United Church or
Colchester SPCA are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to
Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
