Passed away peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital. Born and raised in Brantford, the son of Margaret A. “Marj” (1989) and G. Minto (1973) Cook. Brother of John A. “Jack” (2004) and his wife Linda. Uncle of Carol (Rick) Brown and Mary Ellen (Dick) Renwick. W. John A. (Loraine), Margaret (Lance) Elson and Peter G. M. (Kris). Great uncle to Lisa Brown, Michael and Steven Gardner, Courtney and Lindsey Cook, Mark and Matthew Bascon, Katherine Heyen, Anne and John Olar and Evan and Reilly Cook. Remembered by his good friend Tom Humble, devoted care givers Josie Testani, Lisa Clegg, Shirley Guillermo, along with his dear friend Isabel Wilson. Alan was the proud inaugural recipient in 2014 of a lifetime achievement award for outstanding volunteerism in Brantford. Alan was instrumental in presenting live outreach recitals in both catholic and public schools throughout Brant County. For many years Alan was an honorary member of the Brantford Symphony Orchestra. His many roles included personnel manager, dedicated fundraiser and a very talented cellist. He was a devoted and faithful member of the Sydenham Heritage United Church, generously donating their beautiful stained glass windows and the rebuilding of the church’s organ.
Friends will be received at the Sydenham Heritage United Church, 120 Sydenham St, on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 10am – 11am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Reception to be held at the church followed by interment Mount Hope Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations to Sydenham Heritage United Church, the Brantford Symphony Orchestra or the Parkinson’s Foundation would be appreciated.
