Obituary of Elizabeth Dwyer
February 12, 1925 – May 6, 2018
On May 6, 2018 we said goodbye to our beautiful Mom, Elizabeth. Mom was born in Acadia Valley on Feb. 12, 1925. She was the 4th child born to Moses and Mary McLane. Mom’s sibling number was to grow to 13 children.
The family moved to the Crooked Creek area and it was there that Mom met and married Luke Dwyer. Mom and Dad farmed and brought 4 children into the world. Tim, Eunice, Pat and Lucille. Her life was full with raising her family, farming, milking cows, gardening, cooking. She was an awesome cook and excelled at the fine art of bread making.
Mom always had time to teach us what was necessary to prepare us for what lay ahead in life. She was an active member of the community, a lifelong member of the CWL, and served on many boards in the community. Mom and Dad enjoyed curling, community picnics and many family outings. After 50 years of farming Mom and Dad sold the farm and moved to Parksville B.C.; they later moved into Vernon in the Okanagan where Dad passed away in 1988. Mom then moved to Grande Prairie to be closer to her family.
Mom spent many years as a volunteer “feeding the old people” as she put it. At Mom’s passing she was the last member of her family. She was predeceased by her parents and all her brothers and sisters; Luke (husband)1988, Rumer (great grandchild)2005, Tim (son)2010, Trina (granddaughter) 2011, and Derek LaValley (grandson) 2013.
Mom will be remembered with love and stay always in the hearts of her surviving family; daughter-in-law, Joan Dwyer; daughter, Eunice (Larry) Bentley; son, Pat (Alice) Dwyer; daughter, Lucille LaValley; 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters in law; numerous nieces and nephews, their children, and their children’s children; and longtime friends of the family.
Moms favourite bird was the Hummingbird. Legend says Hummingbirds float free of time and carry hopes for love, joy and celebration. The Hummingbirds delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning, and laughter is life’s sweetest creation.
We would like to thank the many staff members of the Grande Prairie Care Center who’s loving hearts and kind hands with gentle caring touch took care of Mom in her last days.
