Obituary for Bernice Marriott
Surrounded by family on May 2, 2018 at University Hospital of London Health Science Centre, Margaret Bernice Marriott (nee Smith), passed away peacefully just shy of her 92nd birthday. Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John “Jack” Marriott (2002). Loving mother to Barbara Irwin, Robert (Judy) Marriott, Reg Marriott, and Kevin (Matt Gray) Marriott. Proud grandma to Tim Irwin, Mark Irwin and his children Madison and Alexandra, Dr. Kendal Marriott (Dr. Lincoln Lam), and Seth Marriott. Dear sister to Joanne Daniels. Predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Beatrice Smith, her brothers Mel (the late Daisey) Smith and Clint (the late Marg) Smith and her sister Maxine Goldsmith. Bernice will be dearly missed by nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernice was a true globetrotter – Her maiden voyage was to Alaska in 1973 and her final destination was Pakistan at the age of 81 in 2007. Bernice traveled to over 30 countries with her husband and friends during her rich and beautiful life, a proud Canadian with her maple leaf backpack in tow. Bernice loved carving with the Triple “C” Wood Carvers in Sarnia, and was also a proud 40 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 216 with an affinity for WWII history. A dedicated and welcoming hostess, Bernice loved to plan and cook special meals, often paired with her home-made wine and her famous pies. She was a strong-willed and independent farmer at heart, and her character had a huge influence on her children and on the success of Shiloh Farms. Visitors will be received by the family on Sunday from 5-8pm at the Needham-Jay Funeral Home, 4059 Petrolia Line, Petrolia, where a funeral service will take place, Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 216, Petrolia, will hold a memorial service at 4:30 pm on Sunday.
