OBITUARY
David Calvin Fraser
28 May , 1934 – 20 April , 2018
Cal Fraser passed away at his home in Calgary, AB on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the age of 83 years.
David Calvin Fraser (Cal) was born in St. Agathe, near Emerson, Manitoba. He was the second son of James and Georgina Fraser. Cal had fond memories of growing up on the farm. The family moved to Oak Lake, Manitoba where Cal met Shirley McMullan. They married on December 3, 1955 and settled in Brandon, Manitoba. Cal and Shirley had three children: Phillip David, Patricia Ann, and Diane Elizabeth. As young adults, Cal and Shirley made the decision to follow Jesus. They were faithful Christians and loving parents and raised their children to also follow Jesus.
Cal worked for McGavin’s Bread for twenty-three years, first as a baker and then as a driver. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He took his family camping and swimming. Cal also enjoyed taking his family on road trips across Canada and the United States and Mexico. In 1978, Cal and Shirley moved to Lethbridge, Alberta to own and operate two Country Style donut shops. In 1983, they moved to Calgary to start and operate two Big Muffin restaurants. Cal was a hard-worker, but took time off to go for drives, enjoy BBQs, and attend church. After Shirley’s death, Cal was married for several years to Joan. Joan and her son Tim continue to be loved by the family. In retirement from business, Cal continued to travel for pleasure and for service to others. He took countless photos and always enjoyed showing them to family and friends. As well, Cal worked part-time at an auction company. He was very sad two years ago when he could no longer drive. But he continued to enjoy meeting friends for coffee and attending church.
Today David Calvin Fraser is with Jesus. We rejoice for Cal’s freedom and his healing, and we know we will see him again. Cal is survived by his three children, Phil (Lynn), Patti (Rick), and Diane (Ken); ten grandchildren, Greg (Rae-anne), Serina (Mike), Sheldon (Rosie), Anne, Bethany (Darrell), Ian (Amber), Angela (Jeremy), Sandra, Brian, and Heather; and eight great-grandchildren, Rylee, Alaya, Jayden, Finn, Bennett, John, Simon, and Nell. Cal is also survived by his former wife Joan, her son Tim (Sara) and their four children, Madison, Riley, Brayden, and Bentley.
A Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery, 3219 – 4 St NW, Calgary, on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Those wishing to attend, please meet at the cemetery gates 15 minutes prior to service.
