Myrna Louise O’Sullivan (nee Breakenridge) of Leduc, Alberta, beloved wife of Kenneth Joseph O’Sullivan, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 at the side of her adoring husband while sailing the Caribbean.
Struck by polio at the age of 9, Myrna set out to conquer the world despite the restrictions of her wheelchair. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Myrna moved to Chicago, Illinois with her family at the age of 17 where she completed her high school education. She then moved to Champagne, Illinois where she graduated from the University of Illinois with her Bachelor of Arts degree. Feeling the call of her Canadian roots, Myrna returned to Calgary in 1973 where she set up home in her downtown apartment and began her career in social work.
It was through her work at Baker Centre that Myrna met the love of her life, Ken. Their bond was immediate and within 3 months they were engaged to be married. Myrna and Ken were married in 1975 and lived in Calgary, Grande Prairie and Devon before eventually settling in Leduc, Alberta. Myrna and Ken shared a passion for travel and cruising, having visited Europe, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean on many occasions.
Myrna is survived by her husband of 43 years Ken, sister-in-law Kathleen, siblings Gerald (Sandy), Philip (Elizabeth), Richard (Val), Ernest (Sue), Lawrence, Gregory and Melanie, cousin Madeline Becker, many nieces and nephews and dear friends Pat Martin and Melinda Lane, Chris and Lorraine Brunker, Diane and Brad Lamb, and her one surviving pet, her fur baby Spud. Myrna is pre-deceased by her parents Melvin and Elizabeth Breakenridge.
Myrna will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, her indomitable spirit and her ability to make everyone whose lives she touched feel special just for knowing her.
A celebration of Myrna’s extraordinary life will be held at a later date.
