Obituary Overview
Ian Birt
It is with heavy hearts and sadness the
family announces the passing of Ian Chandler Birt, of Winnipeg, on April 15,
2018. Ian passed away at home, surrounded by love.
Ian was born November 26, 1948 to Fred and
Freda Birt, in Winnipeg.
Ian loved spending time with family, road
trips to Calgary or Nestor Falls, flights to Ottawa, wherever family was.
Conversations and laughs over a delicious meal with great company made some of
the best memories.
Ian worked at Air Canada for 23 years
before retiring in 2016. He had the perfect comforting voice for helping
customers in need of guidance.
Ian was such a loyal friend loved by so
many. He had a sense of humor that was legendary, it could be funny but usually
groan worthy! And it got him into trouble many times! Even in his final days,
moments of that humor would shine through to make us laugh. The positive
attitude Ian lived his life by sustained him through his illness. This attitude
coupled with his strong faith was inspiring to us all.
Earlier in life Ian had 3 amazing sons. He
was so proud of his boys and the men they became. Patrick (Cynthia) of Calgary,
Rick (Erica) and Marc (Lisa) both of Ottawa, grandchildren Chandler, Cameron,
Conner, Carter, Cailyn, Jozef, Preston, Michael, Matthew, Aiden and Avery all
mourn his passing.
In 1989 while living in Hamilton Ian met
Colleen. It truly was love at first sight. In 1993 they moved to Winnipeg and
later married on May 4, 1996. In 2008 they welcomed their daughter
Sara into the world. Sara was Ian’s pride and joy and “Daddy’s Little Girl”. On
July 26, 2016 in the Regina LDS Temple, Ian, Colleen and Sara were sealed
together as a family. Colleen and Sara already miss Ian terribly but take
comfort in knowing we will be united again someday.
Ian is survived by his brother Chris
(Yeti), sister- in- law Angela, brothers-in-law Harvey (Joan), Keith (Tracy)
and father- in- law Stan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ian was predeceased by his parents Fred and
Freda Birt, his brothers Clive and Tim, his mother- in- law Judy and nephew
Tyler.
The family wishes to thank nurse Tamara and
Dr. Maksymiuk of Cancer Care Manitoba and the Palliative Care Team who cared
for Ian in his final days. To our church family- we love you so much for the
incredible love and support you’ve shown us during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Cancer
Care Manitoba are appreciated.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am
on Wednesday April 25, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,
45 Dalhousie Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
