Dorothea Louise (Bowhay) Ellis passed on April 14th at the Red Deer General Hospital at the age of 77 years.
She was born on December 18, 1940, the second daughter of Tom and Dorothea Bowhay. Louise was raised on the family farm at Bingley where she developed her love of nature and animals. She was a skilled horse person driving the horse drawn harvest equipment. After completing high school, she attended the University of Calgary to complete her teacher’s certificate. The one room school at Cheddarville was her first posting. She taught for several years in various Rocky Mountain House schools. Her taste for adventure then lead her and a couple of friends to a cruise ending in New Zealand and Australia. She spent two years there where she met her husband to be. After her return to Canada, he followed, and two sons were born into the marriage. Their family spent many happy times camping, canoeing and traveling. Louise spent many years on staff at the Lacombe Christian School. She loved interacting with the students. She had a large circle of friends who shared her adventures. Becoming a grandmother brought her great joy.
Louise is survived by sons Geoffry Ellis and Andrew Ellis (Rebecca) and their children Ryan, Xavier and Violet. She is also survived by her seven siblings: Loraine Liang (Kent), Mavis Nagel (Don), Arlene Miller (Ron), Allan Bowhay (Thelma), Colleen Hutchinson, James Bowhay (Therese) and Bob Bowhay (Karen). Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins will miss her as well.
A celebration of Louise’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday April 19th, 2018 at Parkside Alliance Church, 5846 50 Ave, Lacombe. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Samaritan’s Purse Canada.
