Obituary for Annette Shirley Wick
Annette Shirley Wick (Martin), was born July 1, 1931 in Camrose Alberta to Christina and August Martin. Originally from Bawlf AB, she moved with her parents and siblings to the family farm near Donalda AB, where she grew up. Shirley attended Meeting Creek high school, before heading to Camrose Lutheran College where she received her secretarial certificate. After moving to Edmonton AB, she worked for the Alberta Seed Growers until she began working for the Provincial Government. It was at this time that she met her future husband Edward Bjarne Wick while attending Central Lutheran Church. They married June 30th 1956. Edward and Shirley purchased their first family home on an acreage in Ardrossan, AB, where they had 3 of their 4 children before moving to the Wick family farm near Hoey, SK, where they raised their family. While on the farm, Shirley acquired her drivers licence, and became the local Avon lady, or as Lorris Myhr referred to her – the “Ding Dong Lady”. In 1987, Shirley and Edward retired from the farm and moved to Alvena, SK, where they became a part of the community until November of 2017. Shirley served with many volunteer organizations throughout her life including but not limited to: Saskatchewan Association for Community Living; Alvena New Horizons; Alvena public library; Alvena community bingo; and the Christian Womans’ League. In 2016, Shirley was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis – she lost her battle against this disease peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday April 5th 2018.Shirley was predeceased by her parents; her brother Leonard; sister Enid; brothers-in-law Norman Moe, and Orville Bailey and her son Brian. Shirley leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband of 62 years Edward Wick; her children Gordon, Sherry (Ray) and Barry; her grandchildren Olivia, Shawn (Amber), Stacey (Darrell), George, and Prescott; her great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Kirstin, Brian, Lily and Evelen; her sister Ella, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
