BOYLE (HANLON), HELEN MARGARET –
formerly of Bathurst, NB died April 9, 2018 at the Health Sciences
Centre in St John’s, NL, at the age of
84.
Born in Saint John, NB, she was the
daughter of the late James and Lillian (George) Hanlon.
Helen started her career as a teacher in
Dipper Harbour, the home town of her future husband, the late James
« Jim » Boyle. She was an active member of her community,
serving as President of the Mount Carmel CWL in East Bathurst,
District Commissioner for the Girl Guides of Canada, a long time
member of the Bathurst Duplicate Bridge Club, and a member of the
Bathurst chapter of the Irish-Canadian Cultural Association. Helen
could almost always be found with her decks of cards or her dominoes.
When not playing cards, Helen could be found quilting, or doing other
needlework.
She is survived by four
children: Peter (Hyoshin Kim) of Seattle, WA, Theresa
« Terri » Hanlon (Dennis) of St. John’s NL, Darlene (Mary
Isaacs) of Vancouver, BC, and Nancy Marchand (Marcel) of Arichat,
NS.
One sister, Sister Veronica
Hanlon.
Five grandchildren: Meaghan,
Thomas, Colum, Alexe, Jesse; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was
pre-deceased by a son, Kevin Patrick; three
brothers: John, Joe, and Fred; and two
sisters: Lillian and Mary.
There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass
will be celebrated on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at 11am from Holy
Family Church, Bathurst. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery,
Bathurst, at a later date.
Anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy
may make a donation to a charity of their
choice.
