Obituary Overview
John Charles « Jig » Carr
Carr, John “Jig” Charles, age 79 of Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2018.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late John and Flora (Peach) Carr.
John attended school in Halifax. After graduation from QEH, he entered an apprenticeship as a machinist at the Halifax Dockyard. He next attended Marine Engineering School and ultimately obtained his 1st class combined certification in 1980. During his career, John sailed with Western Union Cable Ships, Gypsum ships, Imperial Oil as chief engineer and as chief engineer for Misener Shipping and P&H Shipping.
He loved hunting with his brothers; an annual get together. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Brightwood Golf Club. He was an avid reader. Most of all he loved his family. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend.
Jig is survived by his sister Iris (Ken) Peet; brothers, Vernon (Denise), Robert (Joanne) and Ross (Marie); his beloved nieces and nephews, Harold Carr, Brian Carr, Rhonda Jerman, Cheryl King, Kevin Carr, Marilyn Heidebrecht, Cathy Carr, Geoff Carr, Krista Irish and Gregg Peet.
He was predeceased by brothers Frank Carr, Harold Carr and sister Terri Carr.
There will be no visitation by request. Private graveside interment will be held at a later date in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.
Special thanks to the staff and residents who made his years at the Berkeley Gladstone enjoyable.
