Jacob Bernhard Epp, age 84, of Steinbach, Manitoba passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2018 at home in his favorite chair.
He is survived by his wife Norma; four daughters: Ardyth, Lorenda, Kathleen and Treena; three sons: Hans, Kelly and Stacey, and their families.
Jack was predeceased by his first wife Teena, his parents, a brother, sister, and grandson.
Jack was born in Whitewater, Manitoba in the middle of a dust storm during the dirty 30s. He was the fifth born out of eight children. Jack grew up in a typical farm life on the prairies. This love of farming never left him as he loved to go back home for the fall harvest. His love for music began at an early age attending singing hour at church with his brothers. This love never faded as he participated in a variety of choirs until his death.
When Jack left the farm, he moved to Winnipeg and began his working career for his brother-in-law John’s Service Centre. Jack remained in the car business his whole life. He finished his career with 17 years as a credit manager for East Man Feeds. He was an extremely hard worker even in his retirement.
Jack met Teena, the first love of his life and they were married July 9, 1955. To that union five beautiful children were born. After spending 12 years in Winnipeg, they moved to Steinbach in the fall of 1966. They made many great friends and enjoyed curling, card playing, golfing and raising their family.
Many years later, Jack was lucky enough to meet the second love of his life, Norma. They were married August 28th, 1987. With this union Jack gained two sons. He enjoyed teaching his sons his many talents such as his ability to build and fix anything and his love of golf. Jack and Norma enjoyed travelling with family and friends, spending time outdoors and backyard bonfires.
Jack had no shortage of love to give. He loved his 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. They adored Pappa and Opa. Family gatherings were a great adventure for us all.
One of Jack’s greatest pride and joys was the cabin he built without a blueprint in Woodridge. We all enjoyed some great memories as family there. Jack loved helping everyone with any project that came up such as building a fence, fixing a lawnmower or just making a phone call to support you. Jack always looked forward to the annual hunting trip where he made lifelong friends and memories.
Jack was a member of the Grace Mennonite Church for over 50 years and sang in many choirs, cantatas and most recently the Southeast Male Choir. Singing brought him and many others great joy.
A private viewing will take place on Friday, April 6th. Cremation will follow, and a private interment is planned for a warm sunny day.
A memorial celebration of life for Jack will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Mennonite Church, 430 Third Street, Steinbach, MB.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
