Desmond William (Des) McNamara

Peacefully on March 22, 2018, Des passed away at the age of 88 at Fred Douglas Lodge.
Des was born on June 21, 1929 in Carman, Manitoba. He was a proud army veteran and spent most of his working life with CPR. In his spare time he enjoyed watching baseball, travelling and woodworking. One of his favourite things to do was to treat family and close friends to brunch on a live racing day at Assiniboia Downs, as a celebration of his birthday.
He was predeceased by his wife Frieda, his parents Patrick and Mary, brother Reginald, sister Ellen and son Douglas.
Survived by son Robert, daughters Karen, Margaret, Donna, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sheila, to whom he was very close, as well as her children, granddaughter and great grandson.
Later in life he started a friendship with a neighbour, Frieda, which eventually led to their marriage in 2001. At that time, Des generously made even more room in his life for Frieda’s children, Otto (Rosemary) and Carl Wimberger, Inga Bell (Jim), their children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all who looked after Des in the last years of his life, in particular the home care workers, some of whom he came to consider as friends, and Fred Douglas Lodge.
In keeping with Desmond’s wishes, cremation has taken place; no memorial will be held.
